WebDab - EMEP activity data and emission database

Introduction

This is the release of EMEP (Co-operative programme for monitoring and evaluation of long range transmission of air pollutants in Europe) emission database, open for interactive use via Internet. Emissions on Main Pollutants, Heavy Metals, Persistent Organic Pollutants and Particulate Matter are available as totals/sectors and as gridded emissions both for officially reported data and gap-filled emissions. WebDab is regularly updated and includes:

  1. EMISSIONS AS REPORTED BY PARTIES [1980 to (N-2) year]
  2. EMISSIONS USED IN EMEP MODELS [1980, 1985, 1990 to (N-2) year and projections for 2010 and 2020.
  3. ACTIVITY DATA data reported by Parties in five year cycle 1990, 1995, 2000 and 2005.

WebDab contains all emission data officially submitted to the secretariat of the Convention on Long-range Transboundary Air Pollution (LRTAP Convention) by Parties to the Convention. The officially reported emission data should be cited as: Present state of emission data, ECE/EB.AIR/GE.1/2009/7.

Gap-filled emissions

Gap-filled emissions estimated by the CEIP (2006 and 2007), the Meteorological Synthesizing Centre - West (MSC-W) (1980, 1985, 1990-2005) and East (MSC-E) (1970, 1975, 1980, 1985, 1990 and 1995) of EMEP are also available. Gap-filled emissions of Main Pollutants and particulate matter (PM) are generally made by completing and correcting/substituting officially reported data (for detiles see Technical review report 2009), while for heavy metals (HMs) and persistent organic pollutants (POPs), the estimates presented here do not take officially reported data into account. Non-gridded totals and sector data for the 2010 and 2020 Base Line Scenario were kindly provided by the Centre for Integrated Assessment Modelling (CIAM) in June 2004. Gap-filled emissions are prepared in order to create gridded (sector) emissions for the whole of the EMEP area so that EMEP Centres are able to fulfil their commitments to perform dispersion modelling ( EMEP interpolation routine). For further references and citation instructions, please consult our User Guide.

Up to 2002 there was an obligation to report emission data for greenhouse gases methane (CH4) and carbon dioxide (CO2) under the LRTAP Convention. This obligation was removed in the process of harmonising emission reporting under the LRTAP Convention with other international bodies requesting emission data. The user is referred to the  UNFCCC web database with respect to greenhouse gas emissions.

Note also that WebDab includes an option for visualising maps of gridded data. In addition, the  EMEP interpolation routine to 0.5x0.5 degrees has been added and can be visualised in the mercator projection.

It is also possible to visualize gridded data and large point source data (LPS) in Google Maps/Earth.
